Join the UT Austin community in recognizing GIS Day 2023 on Wednesday, November 15th in the brand new Scholars Lab in PCL! GIS Day is an internationally acknowledged annual event held each
November on the Wednesday of Geography Awareness week. It is a day dedicated
to appreciating, discussing, and learning about GIS (geographic information
system) technology and all that it enables. This year our theme is celebrating open geospatial science
and we are excited to see how students, faculty, and staff are incorporating
open science practices into their GIS work while also providing
opportunities for attendees to learn about services and resources that
support open science on campus.
Through our UT GIS Day events this year we hope to raise the profile of the
innovative GIS work being carried out by the UT campus community. We look
forward to partnering with the Department of Geography and the Environment,
Location Information Services and UT Open Source Program Office (UT-OSPO),
and and HELIOS
(Higher Education Leadership Initiative for Open Scholarship) who we will be
coordinating with on this event. If you are interested in participating, go
ahead and reserve 12:00 to 5pm on your calendar on Wednesday 11/15 and
consider attending our social hour at 5pm after our formal series of events
concludes.
