UT Libraries Course Materials Service for Faculty/Instructors

The University of Texas Libraries’ Course Materials Service provides Libraries' materials in physical or digital format to support the UT Austin curriculum. Materials are designated as Course Materials at the request of instructors in support of current UT Austin courses.

Instructors are encouraged to consider use of Open Education Resources (OERs) whenever possible. UT Libraries provides consultation and support for using Open Educational Resources. Please contact your subject liaison or fill out this form for assistance.

Requesting Course Materials

The Libraries will make materials available in digital format whenever possible. Faculty and course instructors may request materials as described in the table below. UT Libraries cannot guarantee that it will be possible to fulfill all requests due to availability, licensing, and copyright issues. Instructors may be asked to prioritize requests when requesting a large number of physical items for reserve.

Material Type	Considerations
Books, including ebooks (Request a Book)	Some ebooks cannot be licensed for unlimited simultaneous use. Physical books will be used when ebooks are not available.
Book chapters (Request Chapters)	Request up to 3 chapters to be scanned and made available to add to Canvas.
Articles (Request Articles)	Links or scans will be made available to add to Canvas.
AudioVisual Materials (Request AudioVisual Materials)	When possible, links for streaming access will be made available to add to Canvas. Physical items will be used when streaming access is not possible. Please keep in mind that licensing and/or reformatting can be quick or take up to 4-8 weeks.
Personal materials (Request a Book)	Personal items will be processed for use, which may include adding labels and tagging for security. The Libraries is not responsible for loss or damage. If you would like to scan personal materials to add to Canvas, scanners are available in many library locations.
Non-circulating special collections in physical form	Generally not available for the Course Materials Service. Contact the special collections staff for options.
Entire issues of journals, magazines or newspapers in physical form Reference works in physical form Books checked out from non-University of Texas Libraries	We cannot include these physical items in the Course Materials Service. If you would like to scan portions of them, scanners are available in many library locations.
Materials not mentioned above (Request Other Material Types)	If you are interested using the Course Materials Service for a material type not mentioned above, we will do our best to accommodate your request.
