The UT Center for Asian American Studies presents A TOWN CALLED VICTORIA, Episode 1: The Fire. Join us for a free, in-person screening of the upcoming PBS docuseries.
Synopsis: When the local mosque is burned to the ground in an apparent hate crime, the town of Victoria must overcome its age-old political, racial, and economic divides to find a collective way forward. A Town Called Victoria is a Reel South, Independent Lens, and Center for Asian American Media co-production.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with students from Victoria, TX and director Li Lu, and moderated by Noor Khan (Asian American Studies) and Alishba Javaid (Asian Desi Pacific American Collective).
In these difficult times, we hope this story of resilience, solidarity, trauma, and reconciliation can offer a mirror and a path for every community. Please join us for this evening of community building and restoration.
