Second Annual Lone Star Zine Fest Happening 9/2

Lone Star Zinefest 2017

Event: Lone Star Zine Fest, a gathering of ‘zine makers and enthusiasts. This event is free and open to the public.

When: 1 p.m., Sunday, September 2.

Where: The North Door, 501 Brushy St., Austin, Texas.

Background: The Lone Star Zine Fest (www.lonestarzinefest.org) is back for a second year!

The gathering will feature an exhibition with over three dozen tables featuring Central Texas ‘zine creators, collectives, distributors, retailers, libraries and small presses sharing work and showcasing the diversity of expression made possible by independent- and self-publishing.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, this year’s event will occur in the air-conditioned comfort of the North Door on the afternoon of Sunday, September 2. This free, fun and engaging event is open to the general public and appropriate for all ages.

This year the exhibition is longer by popular demand and runs from 1-6 p.m., and attendees can purchase ‘zines directly from creators, learn to make a ‘zine at a kid-friendly ‘zine making area and catch pamphlet-binding demos happening every hours beginning at 2 p.m. Food and drink will be available at an afterparty (6:30-8:30 p.m.) and ‘zine reading, where visitors can mix and mingle with ‘zine makers and other ‘zine fans.

The Lone Star Zine Fest is co-sponsored by University of Texas Libraries, Town Talk Library and community donors to the Indiegogo campaign to fund the fest.

The University of Texas at Austin’s Fine Arts Library has been developing a ‘zine collection since 2010, and currently boasts over 500 items from acquisitions and donations to the library.

The first Lone Star Zine fest was held in June, 2017, and featured over 400 attendees and more than 30 exhibitors.
