Undergraduates will now have the same loan period as all other campus patrons of the University of Texas Libraries.
Beginning December 1, the loan duration for materials will extend from 28 days to a semester-long period, allowing students greater time to focus on learning and less on managing access to resources.
The new loan period will create efficiencies for the Libraries, as well, with the standardization of privileges helping to reduce complexity in processes and reclaiming staff energy otherwise spent on delinquent accounts.
Bringing consistency to the user experience benefits everyone,
says Assistant Director of Access Sean O’Bryan. With the extended check out, users can spend more time concentrating on study, and less worrying about when they have to return the resources they need to succeed.
This change does not affect any items that have loan periods shorter than 28 days, such as reserves, CDs, DVDs and journals; loan periods for those items remain the same. The Libraries will continue to offer individuals the ability to request any items for recall that are currently checked out to another patron thereby reducing the checkout period and ensuring equal access to materials.
